Surp Asdvadzadzin Armenian Orthodox Church
Built to replace a wooden chapel that was demolished in 1759, Surp Asdvadzadzin Armenian Orthodox Church was constructed in Beşiktaş in 1838 by Garabed Amira Balyan, the Imperial architect of Sultan Abdülmecid I. Thanks to the influence of its architect, the Surp Asdvadzadzin Church features a dome, although domes were not allowed to be built in churches during that period. After an extensive renovation which took place in 1987, the church reopened to service once again. In the past a cemetery existed that belonged to the church where the Abbasağa Park is located today.
